Scuba Diving in Sydney

We decided to take our chances, get up early, take the bus to the dive shop, and see what happens. My friend has just arrived in Sydney on a business trip, and was eager to go diving, but we were late to book anything. We were lucky, there was a trip going out an hour later, however, we still needed to hire gear, and somehow get to the meeting point, a half hour drive away, and we had no car. Things were looking grim. The guy at the shop suggested we rent a car, and he’d try to get us in a later dive, that was pretty much full, but was going to the best spot is the area - “The Wall”. With my driver’s license no longer valid, it was up to my friend. She was quite nervous, worried about driving on the left of the road. After a few minutes of contemplation, she decided on going for it. The guy at the shop truly went out of his way to help us. He found us the best deal on a car rental, drove us to the rental company, and made sure we make it to the dive on time and fully equipped, acting all casual about it as if it was trivial. I, however, was greatly impressed by the effort, and we could not be grateful enough for his help.

The pickup point was at the beach, we geared up, and went down to the water to wait for the boat. A small divers boat soon came in, and we boarded. Most of the divers are locals, familiar with the location, we were the only “newbies”, not really knowing what to expect. The dive master gave a short brief, and to my friend’s request, also guided us through the dive.

The water was a little rough at the beginning, a slight current pulling us apart, so we clung to the anchor line, and headed down. Visibility was not great, but not too bad. The rocky bottom is a home to a variety of marine life, and we have seen sharks, a groper, a wobbegong and large schools of snappers.

All OK!

All in all, it was a very successful day. We got to dive at a beautiful site, and had incredible people helping us all the way through, making this a great experience.

Special thanks to Frog Dive for this wonderful day.
